 I BEGAN THIS JOURNEY WITH SOUTHWEST VETERANS BUSINESS RESOURCE CENTER, WHEN MY CHURCH (OCEANHILLS COVENANT SANTA BARBARA CA.) HAD THERE ANNUAL MEN'S GOLF RETREAT IN MAY OF 2009, WHERE THE 40 AND OLDER VERSE THE 40 AND UNDER TAKE A WEEKEND TO COMPETE IN FOUR ROUNDS OF GOLF AS WELL DICUSS THERE WALK WITH GOD, IT IS A GREAT TIME FOR SOME MALE BOUNDING. AT THIS YEAR'S RETREAT I WAS REUNINTED  WITH A FRIEND KURK AUTIO WHO I HAD NOT SEEN IN A WHILE, I HAD RELATED TO KURK MY PRESENT EMPLOYMENT SITUATION, HOW I WAS JUST GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS OF DAILY LIFE, DAY IN DAY OUT, WHAT WAS I DOING FOR MANKIND ESPECIALLY VETERANS, AS WE CONTINUED TO TALK MORE KURK EDUCATED ME ON SERVICE DIASABLED VETERAN BUSINESS. THE FOLLWING WEEK KURK HAD MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR ME TO MEET WITH ALBERT RENTERIA (CHEIF WARRANT OFFICER USMC RETIRED.) SO AS  ALBERT EXPLAINED HOW S.V.B.R.C OPERATES IT BECAME MORE AND MORE EVIDENT THIS WAS SOMETHING I COULD PUT MY HANDS AROUND, IT MADE SENSE, HERE WAS AN OPPPORTUNITY FOR ME TO MAKE A DIFFERANCE IN HELPING OTHER DISABLED VETERANS AS WELL AS MYSELF TO FORM A NETWORK AND LINK THE TOOLS NECCESSARY TO PREVENT FUTURE HOMELESSNESS AND ALLOWING THE COMMUNITY TO BE OF SERVICE. SO I TELL THIS STORY ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE WITH KURK AND THE GOLF RETREAT BECAUSE HAD I NOT PARTICIPATED I WOULD HAVE NOT KNOWN WHAT WAS AVAIABLE TO ME AND YOU, AND FOR THAT I AM TRUELY RESPONSIBLE, SO AGAIN AS  VETERANS WE NEED TO STEP UP AND MAKE A DIFFERANCE, SO GO TO..WHERECOMMUNITIESSERVEVETERANS.ORG AND SEE WHERE YOU CAN MAKE A CHANGE.....MAY GOD ALWAYS CARRY YOU IN THE PALM OF HAND....

    Hello Mr. Olivas,
    Thank you for sharing your heartfelt story. I am always amazed how we all connect and find the right situation or person at the right time. I am learning how the men and women that serve our country continue to want to be of service to fellow veterans and mankind. That speaks volumes to the integrity and commitment our veterans have of giving and caring for others.

    I am a volunteer with SWVBRC. I heard about the center from working with Albert Renteria’s first non-profit that he created that ships “c-rats” or civilian rations to deployed troops every month. The goodie bags include snacks and treats and loving notes from home that fit in streamlined boxes that ship every month to our troops. When Al started SWVBRC to help eradicate veteran homelessness, I knew right away I wanted to be part of the solution.

    Thank you for your service to our country and for wanting to help provide a more secure and profitable future for our veterans. When we all work together we can do great things. God Bless you, chris

    Daniel,
    It was great to read your blog and understand a bit more about where you have traveled. It is wonderful to have you as one of those who will be there to support the veterans who join us in the future.     Great to read your story of your orientation to SWVBRC. As I keep reading everyone's story I am inspired to start mine. Thank you for sharing and I'm really looking forward to your next blog. As a christian myself, I applaud your courage of reaching out to veterans. The opportunity we have to make a difference in our fellow veterans lives is endless. Keep up the great work Daniel!

    I see that the last posting for you was in early August. I hope you are still engaged and ready to complete your Novel. It was no accident that you were at that Golf Tournament, no mistake at all. Thank you first and foremost for your service.
