2010…. A new year, a new beginning; or in my case, starting all over again…
I have been following Mr. Renteria and his organizations since 2003. I was the Key Volunteer for my husband’s unit and had a Welcome Home party that I was organizing. OI had just started, and we were trying to put packages together for our single Marines to place in their barrack rooms just like many other Key Volunteers had before me. The war had just started, and we were trying to make this the best homecoming that our Hero’s had ever seen, not to mention that we wanted to out-do the Unit that they were attached to since they decided not to include us in their festivities…
After my visit to the OI warehouse in I decided to sign up on their e-mail list hoping to help the organization or to use their services in the future. I started to receive e-mails from Mr. Renteria about all of the different activities that he was doing and the different Five years later, Mr. Renteria started his new organization, the Southwest Veterans’ Business Resource Center. I signed up as a Founding Community Member and have “lurked” in the shadows until now. I kept telling myself that I would sign up as a learner, but just kept putting it off. In my future blogs, I will explain what finally made me take the plunge and how our Homecoming went so many years ago.
During the orientation, Mr. Renteria and I went over SWVBRC’s SWOT analysis. As we were discussing this, I was putting a SWOT analysis of my life in my head. Right now, I have many Opportunities in my life that are for the taking that I have been too afraid to take advantage of. My Strengths outweigh my Weaknesses, but I also have many Threats that will test me over the next year. I hope that with my new found “Family,” I will be successful in the journey that I am about to embark on. I have so much “unlearning” and “re-learning” to do and I hope that you join me embark on this journey!
Please join me on my refusal to fail.....
