What Industry am I Interested in?

While I contemplated about my industry of interest, I thought about my 4-9 options of life. There are nine industries that are of my interest.

What industry would you recommend, and why? If I leverage technology, do you believe it’s possible to be in more than one industry?

    yo te recomendaria la industria de exportacion e e importacion como un ejemplo seria el cafe, te lo recomiendo porque se q es un producto que las personas consumen mucho, aqui en mi pais producimos muy buen cafe pero estamos fallando en la exportacion necesitamos una empresa capaz de dar a conocer la calidad de productos que honduras puede producir.

      La tecnología a superado varias barreras, y a mejorado el flujo de información. Honduras si tiene muchos productos y gente con mucho potencial, para ayudar a desarrollar el país. Como crees que la tecnología podría ayudarme a manejar un puesto en la industria del comercio internacional?

      Se me izo muy interesante leer en el Informe de Comercio Exterior de Mercancías Generales, de el Banco Central de Honduras, Feb 2013, datos sobre el Comercio Exterior de Mercancías Generales de Honduras. De acuerdo al reporte de el Banco Central de Honduras (2013), los Estados Unidos de América a sido el socio mayor en el comercio internacional, al exportarse a ese país el 34.7% del total.

    Food For Thought Lunch Break,

    There exist many challenges in the accounting profession. Those challenges range from in-adequate financial measurements, timeliness, and two different sets of accounting standards on the international scale (Harmon, 2012). The challenge that will have a mayor impact on the Finance industry is the double accounting standards, on the international scale.

    Currently, U.S. companies use GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) accounting standards, while over 100+ countries use IFRS. The increasing use of IFRS is begining to bear weight on the U.S., increasing the pressure for the U.S. to transition from GAAP to IFRS. According to Herman (2010), by Jan 2011, countries which represent an estimated 80 percent of the worlds GDP would have transitioned to IFRS. If the SEC decides to adopt IFRS accounting standards it will directly affect the Finance Industry.

    Accountants shouldn’t see this as a discouraging factor, but an opportunity to expand their knowledge and horizons. With the same standards being used around the world, it should open more windows of opportunity.

    Hope I get hit!

    I want to take everyone back to my Corporal Casillas days, in Iraq. The generators had gone out, leaving us with no light. I put two chairs together and was fazing in to my dream. Not long after, I hear a faint whistle, followed by an explosion, and me rocked into reality; seconds later another explosion, I grabbed my rifle and ran towards a bomb shelter. From the corner of my eye, I spotted a Marine Corps Officer, casually standing out in the open desert. I redirected myself to him and asked, “Sir, what’s going on,” he responded in a very calm fashion, “Son we are under attack;” which then led to my next question, “So what do we do?” He looked me straight in the eyes and said, “Hope you don’t get hit!”

    Hope I don’t get hit, I thought to myself, it took me two years before I volunteered to go to Iraq, all the training and preparation to just hope. I laugh about it now, but that’s what we do; Marines train for the worst and hope for the best. I share this with you because this is where I find myself now.

    As a Volunteer Secretary, at the Southwest Veterans’ Business Resource, an Intern at The ARRC.com, and a Graduate student I’m training to run a business. The difference now is that I hope I do get hit, with opportunity. Part of my training consists of attending the events hosted by the Southwest Veterans’ Business Resource Center.

    This morning, I attend an event which covered certification and access to capital. The certification piece was presented by Karla V. Gonzalez, from the California SBDC, IE office; access to capital was presented by Mohammad Salem, Wells Fargo, and Renato Lucioni, from Opportunity Fund. I learned about the various types of certifications required to contract with the Federal government, the State, public Utilities, and private entities. One key factor is that not one certification fits all. As for access to capital, I learned about the 5 C’s used by banks to consider a companies’ loan-ability, if you will. All though I may or may not open a business, it is important to know about the difference resources available to us and how to best manage and leverage those limited resources.

    Why is America Great?

    I would like to invite everyone to consider the small things, and share your thoughts about why America is great!

    I will began by saying, "America is great, because I can walk down the street, with my slacks a button up and reading glasses, a whip cream topped, strawberry banana, shake in one hand and my cell phone in another, so you could just imagine how much of a geek I looked likely, and not have a care in the world.

    If you don't think that makes America great, you haven't been out much!

        Thank for your time and attention, I am very fond of the information and communication industry. According to Dutta & Mia (2011), information and communication technologies have the ability to develop and enhance the lives of the poor by giving direct access of information and communication technologies to farmers, fishermen, and other micro enterprises in low-income countries; also, when the poor are involved in the sector and are employed producing information and communication goods and services. This is true because farmers and fishermen in Honduras should have access to current market trends and demand. Ease of access to information and communication would increase their bottom line by cutting back on overhead wasted in obtaining said information. How do you think access to information and communication technologies may assists you in reaching your goals?

        Honduras is ranked the 103rd of 138 other countries when ranked according to their networked readiness; this is due in part by factors such as: overregulated markets, inefficient political frameworks, poor educational and research systems, and little priority given to information and communication technologies in the governments’ agendas and competitiveness strategies (Dutta & Mia, 2011). How do you feel you local politicians feel about this issue and do you see any progress in the near future?

              La inbito a considerar el concepto de PIE. El concepto se refiere a la manera en que uno toma sus decisiones. “P” seria tomar decisiones basadas sobre un estado de mentalidad physica. “I” es tomar decisiones sobre un estado de mentalidad intelectual. “E” es tomar decisiones a rais de un estado emosional. Analizemos su comentario, de pq los paises latino Americanos no se an desarollado como, los Estados Unidos. Que estado de mentalidad uso ustd para haser su comentario?

              Uno de los debers de cualquier gobierno democratico es proteger los derechos humanos de las personas.
              Un pais que no apoya la industria del entretenimiento o e su desarollo seria Cuba, que en el caso de Honduras y la mayoria de paises Latino Americanos, el gobierno no es el problema. Por que digo que el gobierno no es el problem? Por la razon de que cualquier gobierno que apoye la libertad de expression apoya al entretenimiento. El gobierno de los Estados Unidos no es la razon porque las estrellas de Hollywood son exitosas. Las estrellas de Hollywood son exitosas por que el pueblo de los Estados Unidos apoyan a las estrellas.

              Que esta hasiendo el pueblo Hondureño para apoyar el desarollo del pueblo?

    To answer you questions I completely believe it's possible to be in more than one industry. I think we all have several interest and as such we definitely should explore them. Sometimes out of curiosity and sometime because it's our passion. By exploring the industries you're interested in I think it's how you'll find your calling.

    My four options of life are:

    1. Management and Marketing Consultancy
    2. Contracting
    3. Accounting and Auditing
    4. Information and Technology

    After doing some research on a few of these industries, I found some fun facts. According to Management & Marketing Consultancy Industry Profile: the United States (2012), the management and marketing consultancy market is forecast to have a value of $147.1 billion by 2016 a increase of 34% since 2011. Engility Holdings (2013) announced that it has been selected as a prime contractor for an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) multi-award contract with a cumulative value of $899.5 million, if all options are exercised. Lacey (2009) suggested that increasing financial regulations will create a demand for accountants and auditors, an occupation that is estimated to add 279,800 jobs from 2008 – 2018. Decisions, decisions every industry seems very promising.

    While I spoke with Luis Casillas, I contemplated on one concept: the notion that our brain processes every piece of information in one of three designated categories. The first category he talked about was the physical category. This piece of the brain interprets all of the physical sensation. The next category deals with all information that is related to intellect. I deals with logics and facts. And the last category is based on pure emotion. In other words, it deals with personal felling and personal perception.

    I'm in the same boat brother. Its hard to know what you truly want to pursue out of those options, but why not try all.of them and see which one accepts you. As a computer science major i can tell you thay technology is all around us and it is possible and more beneficial to be in more than one industry. it is good to keep your options open just in case one industry fails you.     The odds are against the college grads. According to Brad Plumer (2013), 27 percent of college graduates are actually working in a Job that corresponds to their degree. Assuming those statistics are right, why would someone waste their time studying an industry they will never pursue?

    That to me is a waste of resources!

    Can you start a blog or topic on how we as veteran are helping to preserve our 2nd amendment rights. What we are doing and what we havnt done yet. Also how is the 'Veterans Disarmament Act' affecting veterans out there by taking away their constitutional rights that they fought for. Just because the have PTSD or didn't pay their bills. Also what is the Southwest Veterans' Business Resource Center doing or who are they publicly backing to keep the 2nd amendement strong?

      Aver dado mi servicio a sido una decision que me a llenado de virtudes y fortaleza. Gracias a la Marine Corps e podido aprender mucho sobre mi pais y mi mismo. A modo que vaya progresando en el programa ire compartiendo lo que e haprendido para que el resto de la communidad pueda aprovechar de mi experencia.

    Nine options of life.

    My nine options of life are influenced by my military experience. In the Marine Corps I had the pleasure to learn the components of various different occupations. My nine options are influenced by the occupations I was exposed to in the Corps.

    1. Transportation
    2. Distribution and Logistics
    3. Manufacturing
    4. Audio/Video Technology and Communications
    5. Corrections and Security
    6. Human Services
    7. Hospitality and Tourism
    8. Public Administration
    9. Education and Training

    There is no doubt in my mind that with my experience, education and professional work ethic, I can make a difference in each and everyone of these Industries.
